Biography of Ossip Zadkine
Ossip Zadkine was a French avant-garde sculptor and Russian artist, who was one of the prominent sculptors of the 20th century.
He creatively merged the traditions of modernism and avant-garde.
Early Life and Education
Zadkine was born on July 4, 1890, in Vitebsk, Russia. In his childhood, he attended a craft school in Vitebsk and took drawing lessons from Y.
M. Pen (1900-1904). Later, he was sent to live with relatives in England, where he studied at an art school in Sunderland. In 1906, he moved to London, where he worked in a carpentry workshop, attended evening courses at the Polytechnic School, and studied wood carving at the School of Arts and Crafts.
He would spend his summers in Vitebsk.
